Outdoor Adventure - Graduate Assistant
Position Description
The Outdoor Adventure Program and Challenge Course are non-credit producing recreation programs. The
Outdoor Adventure Program consists of a semester schedule of approximately 10 adventure trips, large
outdoor equipment rental, adventure library, adventure trip coordinator team, environmental programs,
and a schedule of outdoor skill classes. The Challenge Course is a low elements course that develops
leadership skills to participants. All trips and the challenge course are open to students, faculty,

Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistant will assume responsibility in assisting in the development and execution of the Outdoor Adventure Program and Challenge Course. This includes coordinating, planning, promoting, scheduling and leading of Adventure Trips as well as facilitating and assisting with planning, promoting and scheduling for the Challenge Course. In addition, the applicant will be responsible for the supervision of student employees. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department..
Qualifications
All applicants must qualify for admission to the Illinois State University Graduate School. A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Business, Environmental Sciences or related field is preferred. Experience working in outdoor recreation and leading groups through a low element challenge course will be helpful. Additional experience should include program management, employee supervision, outdoor trip experiences, and outdoor skills instruction. Strong communication, writing and time management skills are beneficial.
Contract Dates
August 1, 2007 to May 15, 2008. Two-year assistantship available, pending satisfactory performance. Summer
employment is available.
Stipend
$895/month for 9 ½ months, plus in-state and out-of-state tuition waiver.
