Student Employment

Gain an experience of learning and development with the Department of Recreation Services.

The Department of Recreation Services is seeking students who are...

  • Enthusiastic and Friendly
  • Dedicated and Honest
  • Comfortable working as a team
  • Committed to delivering quality guest service
  • Able to uphold the integrity of our programs and services

Each year we employ students in several different program areas of Recreation Services. There are a total of three hiring sessions, two sessions in the fall semester and one during the spring semester. Students must be registered for a minimum of six credit hours at Illinois State University to be employed by the department. We have employment opportunities in a variety of positions, however, the actual positions we have open vary depending upon the department's needs at the time of hiring.

To kick off each hiring session, we hold three Recruitment Sessions and require all interested students to attend just one of the Recruitment Sessions before applying with our department. We utilize a competitive selection process, and work hard to select the best people for our programs. To be considered for employment with Recreation Services you must attend one of our Recruitment Sessions, complete an online application, submit a Recruitment Card, and participate in the interview process. For the dates and times of the scheduled hiring sessions, refer to Best People Student Hiring Schedule.

Hiring Process Outline:

  1. View the Position Descriptions to get acquainted with the different positions that are offered through Recreation Services.
  2. Attend one of the mandatory Recruitment Sessions
  3. Complete an Online Application by visiting www.IllinoisState.edu/jobs/
  4. Turn in a completed Recruitment Card (given at the Recruitment Session) to the Student Recreation Building.
