These descriptions should give you an idea of the duties you would be performing as part of the Department of Recreation Services. All positions include cleaning responsibilities, scheduled staff meetings, and other task requirements not necessarily listed. Please note that, due to the training necessary for many of our positions, preference will be given to students offering at least a two-semester employment commitment, unless otherwise noted.

Assistant Facilitator - Challenge Course

Fitness Instructor
Responsibilities Include:
The Fitness Instructor is responsible for the safe and effective instruction of group exercise classes to participants with varying fitness levels.Required Qualifications:
Ability to complete the ACE (American Council on Exercise) or AFAA (Aerobics & Fitness Association of America) professional certification to have national credibility within 6 months of hire.Desired Qualifications:

Outdoor Adventure Volunteer Trip Coordinator
Responsibilities Include:
Responsibilities include planning all aspects of one or more Outdoor Adventure Trips each year. Money management, equipment maintenance, problem solving, detailed record keeping, risk management procedures, and equipment cleaning responsibilities are all required aspects of coordinating a trip. Coordinators are responsible for assisting with advertising of trips, meeting with coordinator supervisor, and holding a pre-trip meeting before the trip takes place. During the adventure trip, coordinators are held responsible for ensuring the safety and accountability of all participants and university resources.Required Qualifications:
Valid driver's license in good standing before driving a university vehicle in the course of their job duties. Coordinators must successfully complete all required training and coordinator tests, as well as complete annual re-assessment to be eligible to continue in the volunteer position. training will be provided.Desired Qualifications:

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Attend the Outdoor Adventure Program's Recruitment Session on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 8:00pm held at the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center. Attendance is NOT required at the Rec Services Student Employment Recruitment Sessions since this is a volunteer position.
2. Call 309-438-8415 to RSVP for an Outdoor Adventure Program Recruitment Session.
3. Monthly meetings are the first Wednesday of every month at 9:00pm at the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center. You are welcome to begin attending at any point.

Personal Trainer
Responsibilities Include:

Rec Assistant
Responsibilities Include:
Rec Assistants may be assigned to work at the Student Rec Building or the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center. Depending on where the Rec Assistant is assigned, may assist with sales and locker/towel/equipment rentals; checking outdoor equipment in and out; answering and transferring phones; registering participants for programs; verifying guest registration and identification; providing customer assistance; and handling cash transactions. Daily duties may include monitoring guest workouts; cleaning, inspecting and upkeep of equipment; demonstrating use of equipment to guests; providing inventory counts; performing cash transactions; and interacting with the public utilizing quality customer service.Desired Qualifications:

Sewing Specialist - Outdoor Adventure Rental Center
Responsibilities Include:
Repairs a variety of outdoor recreation rental equipment to include cleaning, repairing or replacing parts. Assist with customers if needed.Desired Qualifications:

Outdoor Adventure Rental Center
Supervisor - Outdoor Adventure Program Trip Coordinators
Responsibilities Include:
Supervises 15-30 volunteer Trip Coordinators. The individual assembles trip packets, organizes the check-out of group trip equipment, and meets with trip coordinators prior to their pre-trip meetings. Assists the Coordinator-Outdoor Program with scheduling and organizing meetings and trainings, maintaining training records, and enforcing department policies. The trip coordinator supervisor also requires the skills to assist the Coordinator-Outdoor Program with scheduling, organizing, and evaluating a variety of outdoor recreational trips.

Supervisor - Student Employment and Leisure U
Responsibilities Include:
The Student Supervisor will assist the Coordinator-Best People Program with the selection and oversight of the Leadership Team and assist with Recruitment Sessions, Initial Interviews and Orientation for the three hiring periods during the academic year. This position will also assist with the end of the year departmental recognition celebration. In addition, this position will assist in the organization and promotion of non-credit classes in the Leisure University Program.
