Outdoor Adventure Rental Center Policies
Equipment rental is available to Illinois State University students, faculty, staff, and the community. To rent equipment you must be at least 18 years old and present appropriate forms of identification. All rentals will require a security deposit. Our equipment is rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions may be made for large group reservations.
We understand that sometimes you may be having so much fun, you might want to use the equipment longer.
To alleviate any late fines, just call The Outdoor Adventure Rental Center, (309) 438-8419, during open hours
and we'll extend your rental.

Reservations
In some instances we will reserve equipment for large organized groups such as church groups or scout troops. We have a large inventory of general camping and canoeing gear including canoes and canoe trailers. Required Identification
You must present proper forms of ID which verify your age, before you will be allowed to rent equipment from the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center. The ID must belong to the person actually renting the equipment and signing the Equipment Liability Statement.ISU Students - to receive student rates you must present an ISU Student ID, or a photo ID and your University ID number. If you are a student, but are not yet 18 years old, you may rent equipment.
ISU Faculty/Staff - to receive the Faculty/Staff rates you must present a current ISU Faculty/Staff ID card and a photo ID.
Community - you must present two forms of ID, one of which must be a photo ID and verify that you are at least 18 years old.Back to Top
Payments & Deposits
We accept cash, checks, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover for all payments and deposits. A security deposit is required on all rentals. The amount of the deposit will vary depending on what type of equipment you are renting. Deposits put on credit cards authorize us to charge the deposit amount to your account should the equipment be returned damaged. The deposit amount is not actually charged at the time of the rental.Back to Top
Rental Periods
We have three different rental periods for you to choose from; one day, up to three days and up to seven days. You may rent equipment for longer periods of time by adding two or more rental periods together.Back to Top
Cleaning Charges
Cleaning fees will be assessed if you return equipment that is deemed excessively dirty by the rental attendants. You have the option to clean the equipment before returning it.Back to Top
Damage Charges
Charges will be assessed on all equipment that is returned damaged. Damages include things like lost tent stakes, burn holes, bent poles, damaged zippers, rips and tears, scratches and dents, and missing parts. When you rent, you have the opportunity and responsibility to inspect the equipment for damage or missing parts, either at the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center or at home, and return it without penalty prior to 6:00 p.m. on the day you rented it, (home inspection does not pertain to 1 day rental) Avoid damage fees by taking care of the equipment and using it responsibly.Back to Top
Late Charges
Late charges are assessed DAILY at the one day rental rate! To avoid late fees return your equipment on time or call to extend your rental. Late fees will be charged on equipment that is only partially returned on time. For example, if you return a tent on time, but the tent's rainfly is missing, you will be charged late fees on the tent until the rainfly is returned.Back to Top
Lost or Destroyed Replacement Charges
If equipment is lost, destroyed, or damaged to the point it is deemed destroyed by the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center, you will be charged to replace the item. You will be charged the replacement price value and not its depreciated value.Back to Top
Equipment Liability Statement
"I agree that the equipment being checked-out to me is in good condition and I will be financially responsible for any loss or damage while it is in my possession. I understand that I have a responsibility and the opportunity to inspect the equipment for damage or missing parts at the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center or at home and return it without penalty prior to 6:00 p.m. on the day I rented it (home inspection does not pertain to 1 day rental)"
"I agree that if the equipment is lost or destroyed while in my possession, I will pay replacement price value and not depreciated value."
"I agree to pay any and all late fines for equipment not returned within the designated check-out period on my rental form." (Late Fines Are CHARGED DAILY at the one day rental rate.)
"I agree to pay any and all cleaning charges for equipment that is deemed excessively dirty by the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center."
"I agree to release the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center, the State of Illinois, Illinois State University, the Department of Recreation Services, its agents, and employees from any and all liability for damages and personal injury to myself or any person or property, whether in contract or in tort, resulting from negligence in selection, adjustment, instruction of use, and/or any maintenance of this equipment, accepting myself the full responsibility for any and all damages or injury of any kind which may result."
"I agree to let the Outdoor Adventure Rental Center return my deposit (excluding any or all fines) to the individual returning my equipment in the event that I am unable to return it myself."
ALL RENTALS WILL REQUIRE THE RENTER TO SIGN AND DATE THEIR RENTAL CONTRACT, VERIFYING THEY HAVE READ,
UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE ABOVE EQUIPMENT LIABILITY STATEMENT.
